The common challenge is to embrace modernization through the improvement of existing road communications for both applicants. On the Slovak side the proposal is to reconstruct road II/558 in 3.318 km length in the section between Topoľa crossing – Kolbasov and Kolbasov – Ruský Potok crossing, which is a joint I/74 road that heads to the border crossing Ubľa – Malyj Bereznyj. On the Ukrainian side, the reconstruction of the H13 road that leads from Ubla – Malyj Bereznyj – Dubrynychi – Perechin – Uzhhorod, the section in 1.8 km length in Dubrynychi. The main objective of the project is to improve traffic flow and road safety, to improve the environment, and to increase the traveling comfort of road users, which will have a positive impact on the intensification of local economic activities related to transport, tourism, social affairs and international transport on both sides of the border from which all target groups will benefit living in the region. The project will be implemented on the basis of the Slovak - Ukrainian partnership, which meets the cross - border characteristics of the project, will reduce the negative impacts of the cross - border connection and will eliminate the present barriers for accessing the state border. An innovative element in the project on the Ukrainian side will be the use of stone cement asphalt, which will be used for the first time in the districts of Velyky Bereznyy.
An innovative element on the Slovak side will be a newly built frame culvert made of concrete-steel prefabricated frames stepped in a horizontal position and by that an inner diameter will be enlarged up to 2.4 m. The object's inner diameter and the height of the culvert aperture enables to provide various amphibians, reptiles and tiny animals with a safe crossing under the road II/558 towards the river Ulicka. The project is an innovative solution in terms of the used technical solutions and in developing environmentally friendly transport infrastructure.
