Sure Start Children’s Home - Cross-border Cooperation Programme

Current project intends to respond to health needs of families with new born and small children (0-3 years) living in Berehove city and Beregovo district/Berehove Raion, Ukraine through introduction and widening of Sure Start program services and provision of counselling in most disadvantaged settlements of the region. The project will also develop the services of three Sure Start Centers in Hungary, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County.
District nursing service and Sure Start Centers are not available in Ukraine, disadvantaged young mothers are often left without professional advice in health issues related to pregnancy and child care.
Expected achievements:
- Sure Start Children’s Center in Veliki Berehi established
- Services of the Sure Start Center in Berehove city widened
- Services of 3 Sure Start Centers operated by HIA in 3 Settlements in Hungary, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County (Szendrő, Olaszliszka and Boldogkőújfalu) enhanced
- Counselling in 15 settlements of Berehove Raion provided
- Professional cooperation between Hungarian and Ukrainian experts ensured, trainings organized, best practices shared
The gap filling project will be implemented in cooperation of HIA and its Ukrainian partner, ADVANCE.
As a result of project activities it is expected that health of young mothers/parents and kids (0-3 years old), attending the Sure Start Centres and involved in counselling, improves, medical devices required for diagnosing and treating small children will be available, awareness in issues related to pregnancy and baby care increases, Ukrainian experts involved in Sure Start services receive training and guidance in how to effectively address health-related problems of clients. Sure Start Children’s Centres, medical counselling offer services which are similar to those performed by the district nursing service in Hungary, but are missing in Ukraine at present.
