On September 24, 2020 Satu Mare County Museum organized “Promoting the rural landscape” workshop bringing together all those who promote cultural tourism in Satu Mare County, namely representatives of: Satu Mare County Council – tourism department, Satu Mare City Hall, GM Zamfirescu Multicultural Center, Ardud City Hall, Directorate for Culture and Sports of Carei City Hall, Negrești Oaș Museum and House of Culture, Satu Mare Chamber of Commerce, Borókagyökér Association, Orașu Nou Tourist Information Center, Tarna Mare City Hall, travel agencies. The event was held within the project “Culture connect - cultural mobility in the border area” implemented by Satu Mare County Museum in partnership with Slovak National Museum – Museum of Ukrainian Culture in Svidnik and Transcarpathian museum of folk architecture and life of Transcarpathian regional Council.

Three partners are creating a dynamic and multilevel partnership in order to obtain a sustainable development based on cultural and touristic resources. The project researches these resources and turns the results of research in viable frameworks for cultural tourism development. Cultural landscape of the border region is a valuable resource that gives the experts’ team a clear view on the possibilities of rural tourism. The rural traditions, rural natural environment, rural monuments are being researched in order to propose new touristic alternatives to city breaks.

Satu Mare County, Transcarpathia Region and Presov County are three border region with the same challenges regarding the lack of cross-border cultural mobility, cultural heritage preservation and promotion and cultural tourism development. Preservation of cultural heritage is one of the most important functions of the museums. The project proposes rehabilitation of storages where cultural heritage is deposit. Survival of museum collections is important for cultural tourism development, because they offer a strong platform in creating new activities and new cultural products.

Besides this workshop, the following activities were implemented since the launch of the project:

  • Field research: all three partners implemented research activities during the first year of the project in all three countries. The project team (RO, UA, SK) went together on field research in Presov region.
  • Museum collection research: all partners implemented museum collections research, activity that will have as result collections catalogues, photo album and exhibitions: Marriage suits her and photo exhibition.
  • Digitalisation of the photography collection of Satu Mare County Museum.
  • Preparation of photo storage (RO) and textile storage (UA) rehabilitations.
  • Preparation of photo storage (RO) and textile storage (UA) rehabilitations.

Project duration - 24 months (October 1st, 2019 – September 30th, 2021). EU contribution - 508,572.00 €
